More Train Accidents Show Safety Remains Big Concern

We have written before about how dangerous Florida’s train system is. It seems as if a week doesn’t go by without a new story about someone injured or killed in a collision with a train. Admittedly, some victims are pedestrians who are trying to commit suicide. But many remain innocent victims who suffer serious injuries because of flaws in the layout or design of train crossings.

Florida’s Brightline train system has been in the news for being one of the most dangerous in the country, but many other trains operate in the Sunshine State. Freight trains and other famous lines like Amtrak also get into collisions. At Dolan Dobrinsky Rosenblum Bluestein, LLP our personal injury attorneys are committed to helping members of the public get the compensation they need following a wreck with a train. Freight Train Injures Three

Two adults and a baby had to be rescued from the mangled wreckage of their car after it was hit by a Florida East Coast freight train. The accident happened Friday, August 14, in Belle Glade. All three sustained injuries. One adult was so badly injured that he had to be taken by helicopter to a hospital. The other adult and child were driven by emergency personnel to the hospital.

Collisions involving freight trains get less attention than those with passengers, but the result for someone struck is the same—serious, sometimes life-threatening injuries.

Man Dies after Collision in Martin County

A 77-year-old man was killed on August 18, 2020 when a train struck his SUV on Southwest Amaryllis Avenue in Indiantown. The train flipped over the SUV, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Amtrak Train Kills Three

Three people were killed by an Amtrak train late last year near the Corbett Wildlife Area, also in Indiantown. The railroad crossing lacked a gate, and overgrown vegetation had obscured a yield sign and railroad markers. Locals had complained about the lack of a crossing gate, but nothing had been done to make the area safer. Instead, government officials and train personnel pointed the finger at each other.
