Safeguarding against hazardous conditions

Many people in Florida should make themselves aware of the potential dangers that may be lurking as the holiday season approaches. Many of the stores and establishments they will be visiting may not be as safe as they could be. In addition to the insides of these establishments posing some risks, their outside perimeters may have some unsafe conditions as well.

Violent attack leaves Florida college student severely injured

College safety is a growing concern among students and residents in Florida. Although there are security measures such as equipment and personnel in place to offer students some degree of protection, criminal assaults can and do still happen in many places near and around secondary education institutions, apartments and common access areas. Students may become the victims of violence such as physical attacks, sexual assaults and other events that lead to serious harm.

Premises Liability, Dog Bites And Dangerous Breeds

In Florida, the owner of a dog is liable for any injuries caused by the animal. Unless a dog owner can prove that an adult victim provoked the attack, he or she will be required to pay compensation for the harm done. The breadth of the law in this state may have slowed a trend seen in other jurisdictions: that of breed-specific bans. Miami-Dade County did take the step to ban pit bulls, but there are no statewide restrictions on the types of dogs that can be owned here. That may change in the future, however.

Campus safety and security

The lure of going to college in Florida is very tempting for many students. However, students should not overlook campus safety and security. According to U S News, security policies and protocols vary from one institution to the next. Current and potential students should assess their intended school’s safety measures to determine if their campus of choice offers the degree of security they expect.

Halloween brings up premises liability issues

Halloween always brings excitement with it for kids or adults alike. Costumes, parties, trick-or-treating - it's another great excuse to spend time together and get out into the neighborhood. But the nature of roaming busy streets and entering strangers' yards isn't exactly safe, but there are plenty of precautions your trick-or-treaters, drivers and homeowners can take to make sure the holiday is not only fun, but extra safe.

Apartments and fire safety

Fire safety is a major concern for apartment residents in Florida. There are certain precautions that landlords should take to prevent fires and to warn everyone who is onsite of any potential hazards. Even if the property owner fails to do their part in keeping their property and tenants safe, there are also measures that residents can take to increase their safety.

Breast Cancer Awareness And Misdiagnosis

When it comes to misdiagnosis, not all medical conditions are created equal. Some conditions are more likely to result in a misdiagnosis or delayed diagnosis than others. Among the most commonly misdiagnosed ailments are three forms of cancer: lung cancer, colorectal cancer and breast cancer. A study conducted at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology found that all three were among the five most commonly misdiagnosed conditions, joining heart attack and appendicitis. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, so now is a perfect time to look at the steps women and their doctors can take to prevent a potentially life-threatening misdiagnosis.
