How can I protect myself at gas stations?

With reports of gas station crimes and fires in Florida on the rise, you may be wondering what you can do to protect yourself while you are at the pump. According to Credit Donkey, gas station fires cause injury to at least 50 people annually. For every 13 fuel stations, one facility ends up with a fire. Also, the number of robberies that occurred in gas stations back in 2012 was 7,100.

Holiday travelers and transportation accidents

The AAA predicts that the holiday season in 2016 will see more Americans traveling than ever before. An estimated 103 million people will travel, mostly by car, between December 23 and January 2. As a prime destination for tourists, Southern Florida will see more than its fair share of those holiday travelers.

Crowded resorts and hotels can lead to danger

Last year, Florida played host to more than 100 million visitors. That represents a sharp increase from just a few years back. Tourism, like many businesses, ebbs and flows depending on the time of year. Few times are as busy in South Florida as the holiday season. A flood of new visitors can strain resorts, hotels and other tourist attractions. The strain can show itself in several ways, including an increased likelihood of accidents and injuries.

Holidays and apartment fires

For many people in Florida, the holiday season is a time for shopping, sharing and decorating. It is also a very common time for apartment fires. According to the National Fire Protection Association, close proximity to a heat source was the leading cause of 26 percent of Christmas tree fires that occurred from 2010 to 2014.

Wintertime slip falls

Winter is here, the temperatures are dropping in Florida and snow is on the ground. These conditions are just right for slip-and-fall accidents to occur. Trips, slips and falls may seem like harmless incidents but they are a leading cause of injury for the elderly. Everyone should make themselves aware of the risks that are associated with wintertime slip-and-falls so they can avoid them.

Trampoline parks may be grounds for serious injuries

As the winter weather becomes unpredictable in Miami-Dade County, you may have decided to have some indoor fun with your family instead. At Dolan Dobrinsky Rosenblum LLP, we know that one of the most popular ways for children and adults to have a great time while getting exercise is going to a trampoline park. These are indoor facilities that feature large trampolines and gym equipment, and are touted as appropriate for all ages. However, are these facilities safe?

Ignoring dangerous conditions

Property owners have an obligation to maintain their premises in a safe condition when visitors. If they know, or should have known about a safety issue and a visitor is injured, the property owner can be held accountable. These premises liability issues are common at properties that see a large number of visitors. This includes malls, hotels, grocery stores, cruise ships, restaurants and more. What is surprising to many is just how far some property owners will go in ignoring or even covering up safety lapses.
