You should be aware of these 5 water park hazards

For many, summertime has always been synonymous with family vacations. However, as you pack up the family and head to various resorts and water parks this summer, it is important to remember that many popular vacations sites can be quite dangerous if you are not careful.

With that in mind, below are five common hazards you should be aware of as you visit water parks this summer. Knowing what to look for may determine whether you spend your vacation having fun or in the emergency room.

  • Serious accidents and injuries: Whether you are in the water or simply walking beside a pool, accidents are always possible. All too often, individuals in water slides and other attractions suffer injuries because attendants are failing to pay attention.
  • Drowning: When water parks and resorts hire poorly trained lifeguards - or worse, no lifeguards at all - you and your children are the ones at risk. This is one reason why you should always keep an eye on your family and not put blind trust in ride attendants and lifeguards.
  • Waterborne illnesses: While most resorts typically chlorinate their water, certain bacteria and other waterborne parasites can still exist - leading to vomiting, diarrhea and other symptoms in those who ingest them. For instance, cryptosporidium parasites are highly resistant to chlorine.
  • Criminal activity: Unfortunately, criminals visit water parks too, meaning you need to be on the lookout for possible thieves. In addition, criminal assaults are often more common when resorts and parks have poor security.
  • Sunburn: This is probably the easiest hazard to avoid. Simply apply proper sunscreen - then reapply when necessary - and you can prevent the pain that comes with a severe sunburn.

A serious injury or illness can turn your vacation into a nightmare. However, you should be aware that you may have legal options available if the resort or its employees are responsible for your injuries. To learn more, the contact the law firm of Dolan Dobrinsky Rosenblum, LLP.
