4 symptoms of traumatic brain injury

Many people suffer traumatic brain injury in accidents without realizing it. You may attribute the symptoms to medication you are taking or pain you are experiencing. You may expect the symptoms to go away. Unfortunately, symptoms of brain injury may be permanent.

Traumatic brain injury is caused by the sudden acceleration and deceleration of the brain inside a person's skull. This can happen in a car crash, a slip and fall, or any accident that results in head trauma. The affected person may or may not lose consciousness.

Doctors classify traumatic brain injury or TBI as mild, moderate or severe. Here are four symptoms of brain injury:

  1. Physical issues. These may include nausea, headache, sleeping more or less than usual, or dizziness
  2. Personality issues: A person affected by a brain injury may have mood changes or become irritable
  3. Sensory issues: A brain injury may cause a person to be sensitive to light or sounds, or experience blurred vision.
  4. Memory or concentration issues: The affected person may have difficulty concentrating and following instructions. He or she may become forgetful.

Always see your doctor if you or someone you love receives a blow to the head that concerns you or causes behavioral changes. If the injury was the result of an accident caused by another person, you may also wish to consult an attorney.
