Will fight after NLDS game lead to legal claim?

Baseball fans all across Florida have likely been tuning in to the playoff games going on right now to determine which teams will battle it out at the World Series. However, recently, it wasn't the action on the field that drew a crowd outside Dodger Stadium; it was a fight between fans.

According to reports, two fans got into a fight after the game in the parking lot. One person punched another person who fell and was bleeding on the ground. The extent of the victim's injuries is unknown but in similar situations, victims of these types of altercations have taken legal action against stadium owners citing negligent security.

In a previous incident, for instance, a man was hurt by the fan of another baseball team. A fight broke out and the victim suffered a traumatic brain injury. He ultimately filed a lawsuit against the stadium owners stating that they had inadequate lighting and lacking security in the parking lot where he was attacked.

The courts found the stadium owners partially negligent for the incident and they paid $13.9 million to the injured victim.

At this point, it is unknown if the victim of the most recent fight will take the same steps to file a legal claim. It will likely depend on many specific details like where the fight occurred, what security measures were installed at the time and whether unsafe conditions were ignored or unaddressed by stadium personnel and security officers.

Claims of negligent security can be very complicated. However, when a person is seriously injured at a major sporting event, it certainly can raise some red flags regarding whether there should have been more done to prevent violent altercations.

Examining these situations can be very difficult. However, it can be made a little easier by working with an attorney familiar with premises liability claims and knows what to look for and how to build a claim.
